New Year, New Mental Health Toolbox

It’s a new year, wow! Can you believe we’re in 2022 already? Time seriously flies! I hope you were able to enjoy the holiday season.

This year I’d like you to make it a point to focus on your mental well-being. Once your mental health is taken care of everything else follows. Mental health dictates how we perform in life, our physical health, and our everyday wellbeing.

Have you heard of setting SMART goals?

SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Trackable.

  • Specific: State what you want to do exactly, keeping in mind who, what, where, and when.

  • Measurable: If a goal can’t be measured, how will you know if you’ve achieved it?

  • Attainable: Your goal should be something that you have resources to complete (time, equipment, finances)

  • Realistic: A goal should always be something that is reasonable for you to attain

  • Trackable: Did you or did you not do it? Being able to track your actions can help to keep you motivated if you are doing a good job and can help to motivate you if you have fallen off track

An important part of goal setting is brainstorming what tools you will be using to attain them! In terms of mental health, I like to think of things in terms of my mental health toolbox. What are the tools that I can use to better myself? Therapy, meditation, hobbies, and physical activity are all tools that help me reach my goals and improve my mental health.
