How to Cope with Grief in a Healthy Way

The suffering and pain from a loss can feel overwhelming. However, there are processes to navigate grief. It may seem unattainable, but taking the right steps will get you to where you need to be.

Let’s first discuss… What is grief? Grief is the natural way to respond to a loss. It’s a whirlwind of emotions that you may just not know how to cope with at that moment. Coping with a loss might just be one of life's biggest challenges. This is something you will be able to deal with.

There are many ways to deal with the emotions and feelings that come with loss. Here are just a few, to begin with.

  1. Acknowledge your pain - Ignoring your thoughts and feelings will only result in increasing the pain. By taking a step back and recognizing how you are feeling you will begin the healing process.

  2. Speak with a grief professional - There are professionals trained to help you cope healthily. Reach out to me if you are experiencing grief.

  3. Confide in people that feel comfortable to you. - When dealing with grief, talk to others that may be experiencing grief as well. Though it is important to remember, not all people grieve the same.

  4. Do things that bring you happiness. - What are things you do for enjoyment normally? Try to ease back into these activities to keep routine in your life.
